Capture The Flag is a game mode found in both Modern Warfare 2 and last year’s Black Ops. It’s a team-based mode with two flags in the game, one in the friendly and one in the enemy base. You’ve got to take the flag from the enemy and bring it to your own base. But in order to capture it, your own flag needs to be at your own base. So there are two key elements: defense and assault. Learn how to play this game mode (better).
So there’s a few things to consider: will you be the flag-runner or will you defend your own flag? Or: will you be supporting? This makes all the difference regarding classes. For instance, if you’re the runner, better make it a fast class (SMG, Lightweight, Marathon). If you’re defending, perhaps a more stealthy approach with claymores and stuff is more advisable. If you’re unsure, you could always help out, in which case you probably want to go with a versatile class. Let’s go through the basics.
Flag runner
You don’t want to run like a mad men and be reckless. Instead, you’ve gotta combine speed and a careful approach. Speed is crucial, not only to get to the flag and your base quickly, but also to avoid being pinpointed on the UAV. There’s always some UAV lag, so if you keep moving, you’re pretty safe. Your best bet is to take the flag when there’s no enemies near and there’s some team members close to you. What the case might be, be aware of enemy positions and avoid them! Take an unexpected route and try to get into safe territory quickly. If there’s too many enemies near their flag, go priceshooting! Be careful, but if you surprise them, you probably got the better of them.
And off course if you can keep up, escort anyone carrying the flag!
Flag defender
Take a stealthy approach and make sure you can see the flag OR the routes to the flag. In almost any map, there’s 2 or 3 major routes to a certain flag. Don’t think you can defend all three; you can’t. Instead, focus on one or in emergencies perhaps two (or the flag itself). Your teammates will likely notice and occupy the other routes. Do the same; don’t go camping with 5 teammates on one route. Spread your chances. Make sure you don’t sit in a predictable place. You’ll get flashed or stunned and killed. Your best bet is to patrol a small area (that way it’s not boring either). Off course you will be using claymores to cover the paths you can’t watch. If they got the flag, chase ‘em down and cut them off.
Jack of all trades
You’ll be on the edge of the ‘safe area’ and patrolling like crazy. You’ll get plenty of action and will probably die a lot, but you’re valuable to the team. You’re basically keeping the enemies confined to their own space and making sure that the flag runner has a safe route to pass through. If you notice there not many enemies around their flag, just run for it and try and take it. If the enemy team got your flag, try to think of which route they will take and cut them off.
Let’s do it!
All right, you have some basic tips to play Capture the Flag now. Go ahead and try it out. It’s pretty addictive and fun. One thing: don’t go for the kills. Yes, you are valuable if you’re bringing in air support or simply just slaughtering the enemy team, but in the end, if they capture more flags, they win. And you don’t want them to win off course. To top it off, I’ve added some CTF video’s (not mine) to my video channel for your inspiration.

You’re absolutely right. Can’t believe I forgot to add that. Corrected it. Most important thing is to make sure the enemy flag reaches your base with your flag stil in it.
