Stimulus Package for PC and PS3

This is a tweet by Robert Bowling, giving the release date for the Stimulus Package on PC and PS3:

@fourzerotwo The Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package DLC will hit PS3 in North America on May 4th, everywhere else May 5th. PC gets it worldwide on May 4th

So it’s less than a month away. There’s also double XP coming, along with new playlists. More info on that later!

Stealth Sniper Classes by Ω8o8

I would like to thank Ω8o8 for contributing to this blog. He made some nice classes which are very useful if you plan to be a stealthy sniper. One thing to note though, is that these classes work best on hardcore gamemodes. The silencer reduces the damage by a great amount on regular modes, so you’ll have to make headshots or shoot multiple times. Alternatively, you could lose the silencer. That will compromise your stealth-ness a little and you’ll have to play differently, but it would work. On hardcore, these classes are no doubt very solid and useful, so let’s have a look at them!

Hello everyone! This short guide will go over a few good classes for stealth sniping along with strategies that fit together well with each class. They consist of each sniper plus the FAL for its semi-auto fire. Read the rest of this entry »

Modern Warfare 2 vs Bad Company 2 MW2 vs BC2

By now I’m sure you’ve heard about Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (if you haven’t, check it out!). Perhaps you already play BC2, but there’s also the possibility that it doesn’t appeal to you at a first glance. I will give you some reasons to start (or keep) playing BC2, but I will also give you some reasons to stick (or switch) to MW2. Because in the end, and yes I’m going to give away my conclusion already, Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2 complement eachother very well. Read the rest of this entry »

Map pack preview

As you probably know by now, there’s a map pack coming for MW2. First in line are those with an Xbox360, they will be able to purchase the map pack as of March 30th. Later, (some say April 30th) it will be available to PS3 and PC players. The maps that will be featured in the ‘Stimulus Package’ are Crash and Overgrown from CoD4:MW and three brand new maps: Bailout, Salvage and Storm. The guys from Inside Xbox had the privilege of previewing the maps and showing you around a little:

Gamer vs. real soldier

I just wanted to show you this video, where The Gadget Show host Jason Bradbury competes against a former SAS soldier on The Pit (you know, the first MW2 level in single player). The thing is: they’ve actually built The Pit! So Jason is playing The Pit in the game, while the former SAS soldier (he calls him ‘Sid’) has to do the real life Pit.

How to play stealthy (update: video) Stealth

In Modern Warfare 2, playing stealthy is one of the major multiplayer strategies. The basic principle is not being seen or heard. Just as the principle of bluffing during a game of party poker is relatively simple, it can be much trickier to put it into practice. But, like bluffing, stealth play can be the key to overcoming your opponent. It’s not very hard to get started, but to excel in stealth play is pretty difficult. I’ll give you some tips to help you become the player that will surprise the enemy: “Where the @*$# did that guy come from?!”

DLC details

I quote Robert Bowlings Twitter account:

…annnd we JUST hit 25 MILLION unique players on Modern Warfare 2. Insanity! Also, got a lot of#MW2 DLC details coming this week! FINALLY!

Follow Robert Bowling on Twitter: @fourzerotwo. Just wanted to let you all know!

Update: there’s also speculation that along with the introduction of the DLC there will be a double-XP weekend (where you will get double the XP in the online multiplayer).

Big update
The DLC is coming March 30th for Xbox360 and later (April) for PC/PS3!

Bigger update
Robert Bowling gave some details about the coming mappack. It will, like was speculated, contain Crash and Overgrown from CoD4 and there will be three new maps. And the Hardcore playlist will finally be fixed (some modes like HC HQ were missing Terminal, Highrise, Skidrow and Invasion). Mappack will cost 1200 Microsoft points or 14,99, which is, if you ask me, quite steep. But it’s a popular game and yeah, we’re all gonna buy in in the end.

Class of the Week #1 (FAL) FAL

From now on, every week I will assemble a custom class and explain how to use it. It’s always nice to mix it up once in a while, because every class has its strengths and weaknesses so it requires you to adapt your playing style. Here’s my custom class for this week.

Using low killstreak rewards Low Killstreak Rewards

You’ve seen it countless times on YouTube: (semi-)pro gamers that post videos of them absolutely crushing the enemies. Most of them use high killstreak rewards to gain even more kills. Now you might be temped to try a similar set up of high killstreak rewards, but that will not always be as effective as you might think. Read the rest of this entry »
